The European Health Insurance Card, obtainable free of charge via any main post office, is an essential item that you must bring on holiday with you. Minor medical expenses that fall below the holiday insurance excess limit may be claimed for by using it and it is required in cases of hospitalisation. While it in no way replaces private health insurance it supplements it to the advantage of the client.
